The scholarship limit for football at the FCS level (where Davis plays) is 85, starting next year FBS (which includes the MWC) is moving to like 130. Also, if they want to get close to that they’d have to match in women’s scholarships for Title 9, so you’re talking about 60-90 extra rides to support. I’m not sure they wouldn’t have to physically add more women’s sports (and related expense) to make that work. I believe their stadium for football is pretty significantly short of the minimum capacity they require for FCS right now. I’m sure moving up in FB might be an aspiration, but it’s going to be crazy expensive.
Also, didn’t their students bring legal action against the school a couple of years ago over using funds from a fee they voted on that was supposed to be used across the student body but mostly went to athletics?
That's a head scratcher. When I first saw the post I thought football would be the driver behind joining the MWC. So, M/W basketball, WVB, MBB, W softball, water polo will travel to Laramie, Albuquerque, Colorado Springs in lieu of an all California conference? Other than MBB, I think the BWC is stronger than the MWC.
Davis has football. I wonder why they won't join the MW for football??
