The other missing part to this relates to getting a college degree. In the old system they were in a much better to at least get a college degree when they spent most of their athletic career at one or two schools. After all very few of these kids make it to the NBA.
As it is now very few of them actually get big, if any, money. They hop from school to school, do not get a college degree, and end up with nothing.
