I'd hate that job. Sure tons of resources, but the competition has tons of resources. Just because its pay for play doesn't mean the cheating no longer exists, its gonna rise to spectacular levels.
The axe dangles precipitously over those ADs heads. Hanging by a whisker.

For all of us gray hairs on this board---the old days are gone for mid majors. A new coach, or AD won't change the direction of college athletics. A new President might help but needs $$$. The whole college athletic system is screwed up and we do not have the power to change it. I will continue to donate, buy tickets and attend games because I am a LBSU sports fan. I hope for success in each sport. By the way, I would never want to be an AD in the current NCAA unless it was Texas or Ohio State where they have all the money and power they want.

According to reports, most schools with Football are reserving about 75% of their revenue sharing for Football, 15-20% for basketball (M and W), and the rest to maybe 1 or 2 other sports.
Without Football, we can use the full amount of revenue sharing to improve basketball and spread out the rest amongst our other non-revenue sports. That is not a big change from what he have been doing since we dropped football 35 years ago.
The question is what are we doing to get even a small percentage of the revenue to be able to spend on our athletic program? We aren't raising any money from our large money donors because they've all been driven away by the neglect and incompetence, and we don't have anyone on our development staff, either in athletics or on campus, who is capable of cultivating big donors. We know this just by looking at the recent history of donations. This fundraising incompetence even when we had successful programs is by far our biggest failure, other than the lousy administration that created that atmosphere to begin with.
We have the Beach Pride funds and the new IRA fees that are dedicated to athletics. The new President should consider an athletic fee (we don't have a specific athletic fee, and we are still well below other campuses in terms of our total cost for tuition and fees). The athletic fee could be a consolidated single fee that encompasses all the other current fees along with an increase that will be sufficient to fund a baseline level for athletics, or a new, smaller standalone athletic fee--whichever is politically more feasible.
Most of all, we need the new President to champion the vision that we are in a position to be better than we imagine ourselves to be--because we actually are if we have competent leadership (this was also the Maxson model btw).

I see the problems at mid-majors and specifically LB being caused by administrative leadership at LB, the advent of NIL, and conference realignments that are chasing TV money.
I do not see this changing much in the next several years. I hope we announce a great president in the coming weeks who can at least allow us to be successful in the BW in basketball and baseball. Ahhhh, the good ole days are gone.

Yes yes and yes. Moving on from Monson opened my wallet briefly, but the stains are so deeply embedded now my measly contributions are probably wasted on something stupid. I'll buy my season ticket because its cheap entertainment and fun to evaluate the mess. But no more donations until some positive long-term solutions materialize, if they ever do.
There are some good coaches and programs, the only one I have any hope for regularly is MVB and I'll throw them some funds every now and then. Knipe has vision, great methods, is dedicated, and undeniably successful. Thankfully he is so strongly embedded that they tend to leave him be.
If we get lucky and a President with vision is hired, they should ditch the whole AD operation and start fresh. Start by consulting regularly with Knipe on how it should be done, if he is willing he should head up the AD search. Or wonder of wonders, become the next AD and promote one of his assistants to head coach MVB.
I'm not even considering how to survive in this new big money era, I don't think its worth the effort. I predict Sac State burns out in 3-5 years trying. Focus on how to thrive in that secondary level of DI athletics.
It is frightening how many issues LBSU athletics has, and at the worst moment possible, the system and leadership in place is about as half-a$$ as it could be.
I think it boils down to this: get a solid new President with a strong vision for athletics, we can survive then thrive at that secondary level. Get another Jane and athletics is doomed and will evaporate down to whatever the floor is.

I h@ve been out if pocket with personal issues that will continue through this year. However when I view this board and what is transpiring at LBSU I do not see anything good. We have an AD who sounds incompetent, a departing President who did nothing and still is doing nothing, she retired in place. We have an organizational structure thay defies anything learned in a classroom. We have more pissed off supporters which does not bode well for the future, which thru thevfsult of prior Presidents is manifesting today. We are getting out played and marginalized by other universities.
And when a highly respected and successful coach points the finger at the AD, I think it is time for complete top down change because we are sliding further down the rabbit hole of incompetence. I am so glad I jumped ship 15 years ago and it all started with Edrington. It has saved countless hours of frustration.
