St Mary's finished 15-12 in the weaker than Big West WCC and had a RPI of only 120. Would have finished in the middle of the pack in the Big West Conference. They sure did get hot against UCLA twice but also got some lucky breaks like tying the game in the 9th with 2 outs on a hit that bounced over the ucla 2nd baseman. Ca Poly beat St Mary's 14-1 and 5-2 deserved to win the regional.

Both Cal Poly and SM represented well.
SM's Freshman third baseman carried that first game againts UCLA, had three or four outstanding plays defensively, and then hit two bombs at the right time. The second game they used both small ball and power to get it done. They were 3rd in the nation for batting average, and it worked in the two games against UCLA, particularly yesterday with 15 hits on the day keeping the pressure on UCLA, but Poly shut them down both times.
Poly had it's stars show up, and got healthy at the right time. Solid pitching, timely hitting. Formula as old as time in postseason baseball. Previous Message
Cal Poly is an example of a team that got hot when it mattered. They will play the winner of today's West Virginia vs. Kentucky game in the super regionals. Previous Message

St. Mary's under ex-Dirtbag coach Eric Valenzuela knocks out overall #1 seeded UCLA this afternoon.
Cal Poly and St. Mary's are meeting tonight. Cal Poly is 2-0 in the regional. If they win tonight, they advance to the Super Regional.
