Sent friend cat video

as was suggested on this board - thank you so much great idea and he loved it.

His wife called me and told me they had to sedate him today with morphine because he is having struggles with breathing and had a major panic attack. One lung is compressed and he has tumors in both. He told me yesterday that he greatly appreciates me looking after his cat as his wife has their severely disabled daughter that requires 24/7 attention and ready for this? She fell and chipped a bone in her ankle yesterday. He expressed concern for the cat, I just keep reassuring him she's just fine - she really isn't. I found her on his bed again today and she was rolling around near his bedroom but I don't want him to worry. I did give her some moist food as was also suggested. She seemed to love it - only gave her a heaping tablespoon and put rest back in the fridge - she's still schizo with me though - tries to block my path when I walk and once again, I had to use water to gain the upper hand (spray bottle) if I didn't I do believe she'd attack my leg or bite. Just wish there was another way.

Any improvement in her behaviour? msg

He remains on assisted breathing with tubes in his nose and they give him respiratory treatments several times a day with a mask. He has had a few panic attacks and told me he has them because he feels like sometimes he can't breathe. His right lung remains compressed from tumors and just yesterday he was told he has a very large blood clot in his upper groin, a few in his knee and a couple below the knee. He told me "I so want to live, want to see my girls graduate and I wonder if the chemo worked? If it doesn't we'll just try something else"

His wife has been told there's nothing else to try - immunotherapy didn't work and his lung cancer growths are inoperable.

On another note - the cat is still very temperamental. When I saw her yesterday she greeted me by rubbing up against my leg and loud purrs - super lovey but when I attempted to go into the bathroom to change her cat box she stood firm at the door, and wouldn't let me go in kept lunging for my feet. I was scared so I backed off. I wish I had a magic wand to make her easy to deal with. I'm basically a dog person and took our dog(s) to training and good citizen classes - one we had was a service dog. I love cats but don't really know how to "read them".

such as a feather toy, which has wand, rope and feathers at the end? Distract cat from original intent of going for your legs...or what we have here at the SPCA, we call it a noodle...it is a stick with a rubber type noodle on it, sort of spaghetti style, which you can use to distract the cat...

it seems there is not much hope. I can understand him wanting to see his kids graduate and grow up.

I also have dogs (well only one now) I have taken three up to Obedience Champion but I have always had cats as well. I am wondering if you took a long feather wand on an extra large stick if it would distract her. Also have you tried the Feliway it is helping my daughter's new cat who was also rather "fierce".

If you get the diffuser it plugs into the wall like a Glade Plug-in. It can really help calm a cat who is in a stressful situation.

but it is a really sad situation all round. I was just thinking that maybe you could get a couple of plug ins that give off the pheromones that calm cats down. I am just battling to remember the name right now, but any vet or good pet shop will know. They calm the cat and also you could put some Rescue Remedy drops onto wet food - and mix it in, that should help

Are there any long-term plans for the poor cat? She can't live like this forever.

She really is beautiful! I love black cats, too.
Keep up the good work. When mine were younger and had excess energy, I would take an old tube sock and stuff it with batting/catnip and knot the end. They would wrestle and kick at that thing like crazy. Maybe you could try one without the 'nip and toss it close to her before you leave. I really think it's possible she is bored and has too much energy. In that pic, she has what I call "a boo face" - ready to go off. Whether it's fear or energy, you need to try and redirect it away from your body parts.

That really is heart-breaking about your friend and his family. They are in my prayers.
