If I tell him "ball time" or ask, "want to go out?" He runs to the jar that I keep the clean balls in - they have short handles that Charlie could grab. He will not if they are in the jar.
Instead he barks till I come and give him one of his balls from the jar. Then we go out.
When we come back in he enters first and drops his ball - hopefully in the Utility room but usually in the hall or in my bedroom. Thankfully he learned not to put a dirty ball on my bed.
The balls are all he will bring to me. If I am busy, on the phone, etc., he comes and stands by me with this plaintif look on his face. He's a real kissup. ROFLOL!
I may or may not put a leash on him when in the back yard. Since cleaning and wacking and cutting limbs and grasses I have discovered places where Charlie could "maybe" dig his way out. They are always along the bottom of the chainlink. He is good sized but if he were insensed enough he might try to crawl through. I never leave Charlie in the yard alone.
But once we play ball and I make sure he goes potty before coming in... we have rituals - If I say "home home" he heads for the stairs.
He may or may not have dropped his ball after potty time. If he has he will not look for it or pick it up again to go home.
Which means I am the one that wanders the yard looking for the ball. Sometimes it takes day to find the missing ball. It's a big yard and even though the balls are orange with a blue strap there are tons of dried leaves and grasses everywhere.
At best I try to remember when he dropped it then try to find it. Usually I find his missing balls by accident. LOL! Even if he finds a missing one if he has one in his mouth, he ignores the lost one. It's up to me to find it.
We walk that yard together every day and even though he has 4 balls now - I am buying him more for his birthday. There have been ocassions where they are all missing. ARRRGH!!!
When that happens he sits in front of me barking for me to give him one of his "missing" balls. I then have to walk the yard with him until I find one. Once in a while I don't find a single one.
I think he does it on purpose! ;-)
