Ddil has a relative - age group, Vietnam vet - who is losing his rental home tomorrow.
He has nowhere planned to go, and has given Ds a lot of tools. He used to do contracting, and there are really expensive items in there. I'm glad that they aren't being thrown away.
Also, he has a dog that cannot go with him. She is a GSD, oddly, and is 1/2 the size of Krypto, maybe less, I understand. She's 4-5 years old.
He's had her for 3 years, and originally caught her running loose in a vineyard.
Ds says that she's very mellow. But, he's not sure if she spends more time inside, or out. She must be willing to be an indoor dog with walks outside if she is to stay here, even temporarily.
Also, she must be housebroken, and be okay with cats. Ds says that he was told that she originally lived with a cat, but I know that some dogs, mine included, make exceptions for their cats.
Dh and I spoke about this for a long time this evening, and are willing to keep her until ddil can look for a home for her on her facebook groups.
If she is housebroken, isn't prey driven to our cats, and will live in the house, I think that we would be open to keeping her.
I could really use some thoughts and prayers for this. For example, if it won't work out, maybe the man already has a potential home for her.
Or, that we can find a good home for her quickly.
My biggest fear is that we will have to keep her for a week or more, then rehome her, and that Krypto will whine and mourn for her.
He was basically raised by other dogs, and is very, very dog oriented. He loves dogs more than anything, which is one reason that I've always said that he needs a friend. He cries when Frankie is in Ds's truck, or when he goes outside to leave. I can't imagine him getting a dog friend for a week or two, then having her leave.
But, I feel that we need to try. This girl could be left at the house, taken to the pound, or worse. Who knows who will be in charge of her when her owner leaves. He might believe that she's being cared for, but isn't. You wouldn't believe what I've seen and heard, between my pound work in L.A., the dogs I've adopted, etc. Well, of course you guys would believe it. Ack!
I'll let you know when I do, which won't be until this afternoon. Thanks in advance.
