I havent watch the finals. Been busy with health matters the last 10-12 days. I see carolina won it. Vegas didnt belong. I think youre absolutely right on the playoffs. It needs to be reconfigured/ seeded by points, the wild card is.
8 highest in ea conference get in. 1 vs 8, 2 vs 7 etc, regardless of division. Too, the league needs to do something about. Health in the playoffs. Its a travesty that vegas, not the avs went to the finals... Perhaps round 1 should be like the ncaa basketball tourney. Single elimination? Or maybe cut it to 3 or 5 games.
Too often its attrition instead of talent deciding the series.

Personally, Id rather see Hockey bring a championship to the state than any of the other sports. It just feels wrong. That "the state of hockey" hasnt actually gotten close since that 2nd try as the north stars. They played the pens tough back in 91. Only to have norm steal the states destiny away to dallas.

Its a dam shame they hit the wall vs the avs. I dont think vegas could have won a series vs the wild. Then again, i doubt the wild had the right mix to beat the Canes this season.

Back to McCarthy. Aside from 1 or 2 moments of improbability. What exactly has he shown you to believe in the guy. That he's worthy of a roster spot higher than the PS?
I wonder how that works on the rookie guarantee?
If hes placed on the PS. Does ge make the $330k and lose his slotted guarantees?
I looked it up. The player has to pass through waivers. And if im understanding the language correctly, the player isnt paid his guarantees, but the team is on the hook for the entire 1st round designation in cap calculations.

I harken back to Garrett Bradburry. They kept him hoping he'd get better. As well, likely bc they couldnt find a trade partner. At best, # 56 was less than average. But that guaranteed contract makes it difficult to cut such a player. McCarthy is the same cat, different position. And comparing JJ's 1st contract performance to Darnolds is a flawed comparison. Darnold could always throw a variety of passes. And his accuracy wasnt ridiculously bad. Darnold played how he did in college. Full on gunslinger. The big problem was the jets had zero offensive talent surrounding him. Darnold got rid of the ball on time, and had the dna/body to withstand hits. JJ does none of this. He's late, inaccurate, only throws a fastball and is an injury waiting to happen. On top of it. His immaturity has become noteworthy. Sam was always. From Day 1. Handling everything like a pro.

Its saul goodman. Nobody is going to trade for JJ without fleecing the vikings to inherit those 1st round guarantees. As well, Vikes wont cut him and take the $12 mill cap hit. Next year? Perhaps.

Of note, Bo Nix had no run game, was always under pressure. Has worse receiving talent. And yet. They made the playoffs in both of his 1st 2 seasons. Probably go to the superbowl last year save for the shoestring tackle that ended his season.

Jamarcus Russell. Thats who JJ compares to.
Not Sam Darnold. Or perhaps Zach Wilson.

I need to see 2 things from McCarthy. Hit his back foot in his dropback. Sling the ball or escape (be on time). Pass the ball more accurately, with appropriate zip/ touch/ moonball. In otherwords. Look like a pro qb.

To do so, he needs to quit worrying about the other qb's ( out if his control) and focus on his own play, teaching points (what he can control).
That takes discipline & maturity. The 1st lesson of leadership, do your job at a high level. The worst leaders do the rah, rah. Pump up the boys schtick while their own play is junk. Eventually. The sidelines want to drown that dude in the gatorade bucket... His teamates say the right things- in the media. I have a hunch the words dont echo the thoughts going into season 3.

My suggestion. Kid. Keep your mouth zipped. Let your play do the talk...
