I need to redo a front hillside. Living on Podunk. Spokane or CDA is where one has to go to get a contractor.... I spent a year calling engineers & contractors. Appointments made. Wait for them to show. The handful that did show. They spent an hour of me describing the project. Said they'd get back to me. Not a one ever called back with an estimate or even a word to say not interested .. so I'd call them. The answering party, secretary would take my information. Still no call back. So my 2nd call always resulted in a brush off. Too big a project or to far to drive...
Long story short. I read a month or 2 everything I could find 60° slope holding up a plateau where a house is... To say it was a big bite for me to chew? Lol, y'all I'll say. 100 tons of gravel . 6 pallets off 90 lb each brick. It took me an entire summer to build the thing in its raw skeletal form. Began it in 2018. Just poured the final 10 yards of concrete in summer 2024. 70 yards of concrete the ronage of gravel. Day labor and myself renting machinery.
It began. By reading. Doing the math & specs. Blueprints for Podunk require only the math and a drawing
My son the minning engineers came for a visit in February of 2019. The brick was on hand. The hillside had been rough hewn. An initial layer of gravel , 29 years laid down. The project staked, tarped. Let the winter snow settle everything in nice & firm. I had pictures for my son, pre tarping. The math calculations. The method detailed and my blueprints... My sons very words- " you did this? W/o pro engineer. The math. The planning? Ayup- gezzus dad, this is crazy impressive. I'll bring copies back with me. Run it through my companies software.
There was only 1 correction needed. I had about 5° slope too much in the houses sewer line that I was rerouting to go underneath the project.. and his response. Dad, a commercial project like this? No wonder they didn't call back. The cost of planning, engineering, blueprints and then labor & materials is likely more than the value of your entire property... Out the door start to finish. I budgeted $25k and completed it for $18k. Everything except thAt final concrete pour came out looking professional. The final pour. My labor flaked. So I was trying to skreed and finish a 10 yard pour on my own. The finish work on the surface is the absolute worst concrete job I ever did in my life. But its fine. It's not structural it's a 4 car parking lot at the base of the hill. Store trailer, atv and carmelitas car there. There is piers framed up & poured to frame a covered single slope carport. Thats the $5k or so I didn't spend... My point. If a man studies and takes his time. He can accomplish any task.
The board host system, ph can attest. Is basically a entry level tutorial on html coding. A person can learn it in a day.
On that note. I've turned my learning to AI. ... It's a little more confusing than the html tutorial. It took me about 2 weeks. But now I have it down to a science. The 2 books I've previously written. Never published they took took more than a year a piece.
The auto biography I'm now in the middle of. I've cranked out 18 chapters in about 25 days.... So much easier with an AI assistant. Part 1 & 2 are complete. My childhood in Minnesota. Family history back to mid 1800's in france, Italy & Sweden.... Idk that it's for publishing. It's for my children. So they no from whence they came.
Who says you can teach an old dog new tricks. Technology & the Internet. Used as intended. To learn, communicate and achieve goals that prior required bi money & a university. It's all at our finger tips. A click away.
Unfortunately, the American Internet got hijacked by greed and that's how most use it. To make money or spend money.
The purpose was not that. It was supposed to be the greatest no tuition university ever. A better education than Cambridge, mit or Stanford. As rounded and complete as ones personal curiousity.... Too bad capitalism hijacks all it touches for? Pfft? Wealth?
Overated. Wealth. Extreme wealth?
The richest man in the world is a lunatic addict. Elin could have been a positive changing force for humanity. I stead he's an unhappy narcissist.
Hmm. Go figure.
I gotta say, in my research the past couple months. My Italian grandfather? He died near penniless in his 90's. Still narried to his one and only wife. But dang, his adventures/ misadventures? What he saw did & survived? Celeste (pronounced Chuh-last) is one incredible bad ass human! not so much tough guy violent badd ass. No. Family patriarch bad ass. I hope one day I sit next to him in heaven. Here the stories I've confirmed from family legend in 1st person narrative.
As always. ✌️ To all of you. May curiousity keep you going. Accept the challenges and achieve the things that matter, in your heart. Your dreams- that's the biggest happiness in ones lifetime. Achieving ones dreams, or to die trying to complete that final one.
Fk trump and all the anger & despair.
In 100 years he/ it will be completely w/o meaning. A stain on history.
