I visted the Exwick cross where my Great Uncle is remembered having died at Flanders in 1917 aged 19. He was not recovered as there was no body parts to find as the entire troop were killed and none survived the shelling that day. Listed as, Blown to pieces.
My poppy flag is on the flag pole in the garden but will be replaced with the Union flag Tonight. Its good that i have a picture of the young man who was over 6 foot tall. A few of my elders were in both wars but did make it back alive. Got some good photos of one beside the Pyramids in Egypt with a few other soldiers. Another picture of a Grandad wearing a desert hat and the other Grandad in a staged photo at a photographers wearing full uniform. I have his medals but he had left them in envelopes they came in and the ribbons were not tied on. The ribbons came in a separate envelope and remained in the envelopes. He never wore them as he did not like wars or fighting at all.
