Thunderbird

In for MOT and not used for 12 Months and no problem with stale fuel thats been in the tank 2 years now. I had covered 1 miles since last MOT and that was the journey back and Todays journey to the MOT. 7 years old now and 2000 miles covered. Tonight it goes to Paignton and 70 miles. Glad i have this superb running 1700 cc bike.

Just got back and a lot of bikes Tonight. Also a lot of road closures so alternative route to the seafront. The venue has been getting awkward the last few years as the Council just does not want them. They shut down all the toilets within half a mile. Its a pity as each night, a local childrens charity gets about £3000. Its been running about 20 years with no problems and attracts visitors from far places. Tonight, the rider parked next to me rode from Gloucester. Everyone is happy, no one is fighting and no littering.
The number of new Triumphs seems to be catching up with the large number of Harleys. Lots of the Trident model and 400 out now. The 400s are available from stock now. Just phone the dealer and they have one for you. Personally, i cannot ride one as the bike is too small so i cant work the brake or gears. I can only ride with heel and tow change

Why not consider just making a toe and heel pedal. Alternatively speak to the Disabled Bikers Charity about having a bar mounted gear change system.

Other opinions may be available but this one is always correct.

I now have 3 bikes with heel and toe change. Next, i will make a dual lever for the Spitfire.
NABD will supply and fit a kliktronic system if i want one but i prefer the system i make up which costs just an old gear lever and weld it up. The two new Triumphs had heel and toe when ordered. Those two have a lot of adjustment to get just right.
The Thunderbird has the best gearchange as it is less like a tractor gearshift. The R111 is a very large set of gears to operate by foot so makes a bit of noise.
The problem with getting older, it makes it difficult just getting on and off now.
The last 12 Months i had not used the new bikes due to the various hospital visits i had looking for problems. The tremors i was having have almost stopped but still dropping tools and screws etc.
I was fairly fast on the road tonight and it made it enjoyable.
One day,i may have to have an auto scooter type bike but it would need to be a 750 Honda.

Why would it have to be a 750 Honda?

I'm guessing he means that it needs to be a real motorcycle that looks and acts like one rather than a form of mobility scooter ....?

Yes, if i were to buy a stepthru scooter, it needs to be able to carry us two with a weight of about 27 stone at 70 mph Honda seems to be the best available but for now, i can do well on the Thunderbird but the 750lb weight of it is hard work.

There will be more options soon.
Apparently Hondas new 'e-clutch' system offers full automatic gear changes if you select it. Its cheap, effective & sure to be available on a wider range of bikes than their DCT system.
Also BMW now offer an auto option on their GS but they'll also roll it out to other models, and KTM are developing an auto system too.
If these are popular other manufacturers will follow suit.

That can only be good for bike sales as a lot of older bikers suffer hand problems with arthritis. Have to admit I'm starting to struggle on long rides with the clutch hand. Starting to dread getting caught in heavy traffic.

One of the blessings of modern electronics on bikes is fuel injection with ride-by-wire throttle. I remember struggling on long rides with hand ache on my Le Mans with its big pumper Deollortos carbs. Its the heaviest throttle I've ever known & I'm 100% sure I couldn't ride it very far now. But bizarrely its clutch was light in comparison to the hydraulic one on my later more modern Guzzis. Now of course clutches have almost been made redundant by quickshifters & autoblippers on many bikes.......Luxury! (Cue the 4 Yorkshiremen).

I have a devise on the handlebars that allows my palm to hold the throttle now. Its a £3 plastic part that just clips on. Been using it for years.

I sometimes end up with painful joints in my fingers on both sides - it comes and goes, not usually enough to cause any real discomfort.

The H2 was a real "mans" clutch - a lot of people convert them to Hydraulic, me I just get rid of the bike !!

The ones on the KH, Him and Speedmaster are pretty light, the Speedmaster being the lightest of them all.

Modern Triumph has fly by wire throttle and no cable on mine

Yep Speedmaster has fly by wire as did the 660.

Himalayan throttle is cable, but very light, the KH has 3 carb slides to lift as well as work the oil pump so by compoarison is quite heavy.
