Amazing how cars can bring people together

This is a story about my 1969 Impala SS . It might be rather long . Some of you might be interested in this story. This is a true story, and the history of my car and who I purchased my car from.He was a good friend of my dads . It was Sept . of 1970. All I wanted to do was drive my car . At that time I knew nothing of the build sheet , the protect o plate , window sticker , or any of the paperwork . About 10 years ago , I started the rebuild of my car . I found this site and learned so much from you guys . I got to thinking about finding the original owner to see if he might still have any of the paperwork . I found out that he had passed away . I then came to realize that I would never have any of the original papers . Last week , I was at a car show in Albion IL . I was cleaning on the car and I set up my sign that I place on a tripod . It tells the history of my car . All of a sudden , I heard a lady say , "Oh my gosh, I know this car , this was my brothers car . " She was crying . We had a long talk about my car and her brother . Later in the day I took her for a ride . She was so happy to find her brothers car . We exchanged phone numbers and email addresses . Later that day on the way home , my phone wrings . It was her , Mary . She said that she went to her moms house to tell her 90 year old mom what had occurred that day. Mary also told me that she had found some of the original papers for my 69 Impala . I was stunned to say the least . Mary said she could mail it to me and before I could say that would be great , she said wait , mom wants to see the car . I said that would be fine. So Thursday , Lori ,my granddaughter , and I went to Carmi IL . We had a great visit . I thought , how can all of this happen ? After all it has been 48 years . I would like to share what I found with all of you . I believe it is the order sheet . It lists the name of the dealership and the city , and the salesman's name. It lists all of the priced items on my car . Total price is $4210.15 I know this has been a long story and some of you may have given up on this story . I apologize if I have bored any of you , but I couldn't help but write to all of you. So many of you have been a big part of my rebuild and I just had to share . I am still amazed how a car can bring people together . To share stories , and make friends . Thanks , all of you on this board that helped me through this adventure . I will post a picture of the papers if any of you might be interested .

I do have a little more that I can add. As you guys know a 427 with 373 gears does not get very good gas mileage . Probably 8 or 9 miles per gallon. I drove the car till 1975. When gas got up to 85 cents per gallon I said to myself , "Hell with this ." I parked my car and never drove it again . 85 cents does not sound like much right now , but back then working my way through college, that was a lot of money . After parking my car I bought a Ford Pinto and finished college . I still have the 1975 plates hanging in the garage . When I parked the Impala it had 25,000 miles on it . It now has 28,000 miles. People say that I was smart for hanging on to my car . I don't think the word is smart .Maybe the word is lucky . I was fortunate to have a place to store it over the years . Anyway I am not trying to bore you guys I just thought maybe I could add a little more to the story . I will post a copy of the order sheet for you guys to see . Thanks for your interest .

Thanks Ron . I still can't believe all of this happened . To be able to run into someone like this and find some of the paperwork that is 48 years old is unbelievable . I just found out that Charlies mom who is 90 years old , took a turn for the worse and is now in the hospital . I think she is all right , but she may have to be transferred to a nursing home.

Like they say "things are met for a reason".
Just think of all the things that had to line up for that chance meeting at the car show:
Your choice to take the car, weather,taking the sign,for the sister to come,to walk by the car, and on and on.

That is great John!!! You should have the mirror map light and under hood light, glove box light and the under dash lights with the trunk light. Auxiliary lighting gives You the extra lights. I used the map light often. To meet the Owners is awesome. NICK L72

Nick I do have the map light , under hood light , glove box light , under dash lights and the trunk light . Auxiliary is the word that I could not read . Thanks Nick .

I went to the Abe Lincoln Car Show in Springfield IL this weekend . There were 400 cars at this show . I was the only one there with a Z 24 car . There were Impala and Bel Air cars from 58 , 62, 63, 64,65, 66, and one 68 327 . I had a great time and met some really nice people .

You are right about that I went to Marks Cruise Nite in E Granby CT .it was mustang night there must have been 300 +
Mustang and 3hundred other cars . Well packed .

This weekend I went to a car show in Edwardsville IL . There were 350 cars at this show. No Z 24 cars except mine. There was a 69 Fathom Green Kingswood Estate wagon there. This guy ordered the car new. He told me that he was going to order this car with a 427 4 speed , but his wife objected to that . He ended up with a small block automatic. Very nice guy . There was a guy there that had a 66 Impala SS 427 4 speed. He bought it at Mecum , I bellieve in Indy. Nice original car . He had a lot of documentation . I introduced him to this site. I told him that Warren might be interested in some info . Any way it was another great car show.
