Who can reprint a speedometer face

I don't have a good reason, I just kind of collect rare GM clusters. But I grabbed this 1968 Imapal gauge cluster off eBay, and it will need to have the face printing redone:

I talked to one company but they were afraid the numbers were raised which would mean they can't do it.

Any suggestions on who would be best to do the cosmetic restoration on the faces?

I used D&M restoration (800-722-0854) out of Greenville SC to restore my '69 140 mph speedo and gauges. They do excellent work.My cluster came out of an Arizona wrecking yard and was faded real bad from the sun. I saw there work displayed at Carlisle and did finally use them.

I just got my '68 tach back (which I'm happy with) from the outfit suggested below. I did not have any "cosmetics" done, but I had lots of conversations with the guy, including dash 'renewal' services (which they do). Those chats, and the details on their web page led me to believe that it would be the place I would go to if I ever needed a cosmetic upgrade.

Here are the details: Auto Instruments (in SW Virginia), ph no. (276) 647-5550, ask for Gentry...and for what it's worth, tell him I sent you (Bill Hinkley) and refer to my '68 Impala tach repair.

Just a thought...

If anyone wants to repair their own non-working tach, The most likely problem is a burnt out round 5 pin circuit board behind the tach face. Took me 10 minutes to repair mine using these boards.$45 and free shipping. Don S

Don, will this unit work in a 68 (the listing says 69-77) ... Also, I recently built a fuel sending unit following suggestions in a post of yours and it works fine ... Thanks for that one ... Cheers Glenn

Yes Glenn, I fixed my 68 tach. If you look at the circuit boards, there are 5 connections: 1 ground to the back plate, 1 12v+, 1 coil trigger wire and 2 wires that go to the meter movement. All 5 just plug into the contacts on the new board. This new circ board also has an adjustment to calibrate the meter. I hooked up the tach on my bench to a spare distributor and also to a dwell/ tach meter and spun the distributor with a drill. They were both pretty much exactly the same rpm. Don S

It's too bad we don't have stickys on this site like most others. I just hate paying someone to do something I can do myself. Plus, I'm an electrician and radio/electronics tech, so it should come easy to do things like this.

Dave,

Maybe I misled you. I had no "face" work done...just mechanical to my tach. But Gentry talked to me about what they can do to fix up any dash cosmetically because he noticed that I had done some painting to my tach face, including needle repaint.
