They did same thing 30 years ago. Nothing new here, its referred to as team orders. Drivers are told to let their senior team mate through almost every race. Schumacher pulled over to give Rubens the win at the USGP around '03 or so. Some controversy, no lasting fall out. Its all about the team not the drivers.
