At the risk of being too off topic.....(just ask me to stop)
Watching the sunset you are rotating 1,000 miles per hour backwards and on the trailing side of the solar system rotation.
This sunset while Gumpin on the beach I was thinking about the Ottmar Liebert's album "The hours between night and day" I had always considered it to be about sunset but the title suggest it is about sunrise.
OTTMAR LIEBERT & LUNA NEGRA ~ Concierto! 'Bombay' (1996 concert movie)
Facing the sunrise you are rotating 1,000 miles per hour forward and are on the leading edge of the earths rotation around the sun. Truly on the tip of the spear of time (so to speak).
Solar system awareness (where we are in relation to the sun and planets) should be just as much a part of our world as knowing basic math IMO.
Edit: 1,000 miles per hour is at the equator, for us in La Manzanilla (20 degrees North) it is about 974 miles per hour and in Vancouver (apox 50 degrees North) it is about 660 miles per hour.
