Nia cancelled today due to house disturbance Posted by Dhyana on December 26, 2023, 5:16 am Twas the night after Christmas When all through the house A creature was slinking with its hungry mouth, And out in the kitchen there arose such a clatter that I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter. A big furry animal slunk through the shadow My mind freaking out with all thoughts of "But how.. Did this giant raccoon (so huge fluffy all over) Manage to get in the door without being discovered... And sniff out the cat kibble inside a pot Even though it was lidded securely (I thought)" With its long furry tail twas a right scary fellow So I opened the door and I gave a small yell out. But it scurried back out its big tear in the screen, Where I noticed the space of the bars slipped between, To the top of the porch, to the top of the wall, It did dash away, dash away, dash away all! So now here I sit, almost 4 hours later, All hopped up, with my cat (so glad it hadn't ate her) Seems I hear more scratching outside on a screen And my cat also runs to catch sight of the fiend... Wondering if I'll sleep to be good in the morrow I'll cancel class now and save me the sorrow. So now I'll just say, ere I turn out the light, "Happy Boxing Day to all, and to all a good night!"

It's the third time he (?) has walked in and helped himself. The first time he went in the pantry and pushed a full size plastic cooler, that we store dry goods in, off the shelf and when I found it he was chowing down on a ripped open bag of granola. Second time he climbed ,somehow, on the fridge and leaped to a suspended basket and rode it to the floor and stole the bananas. Last night we had things more secure and he didn't get anything so I guess he went to your house. Cheeky bugger.

It looks different than any raccoon I've ever seen, even around here. I'm not sure how to keep it out, except closing up all the screened and barred windows and doors as soon as it gets dark and enduring the stuffiness.

It had long fluffy fur all around, right from it's face to its tail - almost like a HUGE Persian long-hair cat- and obviously very sharp claws judging by the 10 inch hole in the screen .

I really only saw as it was making it's escape by flashlight but it had a very bushy fairly long brown tail.

Re: Nia cancelled today due to house disturbance Posted by Dhyana on December 29, 2023, 6:52 am, in reply to "Nia cancelled today due to house disturbance" The closest picture I've seen that resembles the intruder is a "mapache" because of the furry long tail and broad furry head; however it translates to "raccoon" and this was bigger and different body contour than any I've seen in Canada! Also this one seemed to be all black and I didn't see any ring markings on its coat, but then I have only seen it in the dark.
