There are ways when you are low income to get yourself out of poverty. Most people in poverty do not search for these ways. Also I have seen and witnessed some nice things being purchased only to take them back to a low income housing development. I personally delivered (working for a delivery company) many flat screens, xbox ones, and playstations to adults in "government housing". You can afford all the "privileges" that are more luxuries, but are not willing to save to make it better for your future? Also you can afford weed and other drugs but want to live off the government? Yes people should be drug tested to be in a government program. You are not owed anything for laziness.

I came from a family where my mom was a single mother (after a divorce) and couldn't buy us Christmas presents. When your a child and you see random people bringing in presents that "Santa" was suppose to bring, it is not fun. I paid for my own community college working three jobs, and taking fours years to get a two year degree because of money issues). I sacrificed a lot of time working 2am so I could have the good job I have now. It's called patience and sacrifice. It's a "I want it now culture" I now work plenty of overtime hours and sacrifice a lot so I can provide for my family. Which people in "poverty" (I'll say 70%) don't want to do.

So yes you can "pull yourself up by the bootstraps" and change. It's a matter of sacrifice(which people don't want to do) instead of intitlement (which most people feel the are owed)....
