Ernie Cloud.
He was the Shop teacher at Jackson Junior High and influenced my older brother to the point of … well most people around here know the rest of that story. Ernie’s Daughter baby- sat me on an occasion at their house off of Zuni and Louisiana.
When I say A-Hole I use it loosely, in that they need to be stern, hardnosed if you will in their decisions weather they be the right decisions or not. If you are not in agreement with their course of action or as you mentioned their ability to listen to racer concerns you may not see the promoter in the best of terms.
And indeed competition in the local market can be a factor for change. I do remember the rivalry between Speedway and Raceway and it was intense. If you raced one you never visited the other unless it was to prove a point. Reference: Dave Tanner coming down to Raceway for one night and nearly lapping the entire field on the half mile in a Late Model. Pretty sad night for us valley racers.
As far as Royal I get a “get of jail free card” in that I have not actually met him. I have referenced his operation in glowing terms on several posts over the years. His track’s success speaks volumes. All indications he is a successful business man (I see those MVT trucks all over the nation) and I am sure he did not get there by allowing the prisoners to run the asylum.
Keith Hall at Manzanita ran what appeared from the outside to be very successful operation. Walk through the infield pits and you would be hard pressed to find anyone that would agree.
It is the delicate balance between pleasing fans and racers is where success is to be found me thinks.
In short I do like Chuck’s statement: Come try it!
Sorry for wasting two minutes of everyone’s life.
I am just on here killing time until the game starts I suppose
