Those young "Banzai warriors" represent the future of our sport.
Nice to see 100+ cars show up.
Think of,
How many present/past champions in full size cars started in 1/4 midgets...
With the lack of continuity in Albuquerque racing the last few years, I think we may have lost a generation of racers.
Duke city to Hollywood hills to Sandia asphalt back to Hollywood hills and now back to Sandia(dirt)...unless you're a diehard fan, it's difficult to keep up with who's racing where.
Most casual observers have no clue there's dirt track racing up on top of 9 mile hill.
Maybe a few years of continuous operation & actual promotion will rectify that.
Tracks are closing all over our area . Tularosa got bladed under. Aztec/Cortez are considering USRA, due to imca sister tracks in Price Utah & Olathe Col. closing.
There's not many deep pocketed owners/promoters like Royal & Sherman running around, who do it for the love of racing.
It was hard to find parking @Sandia Saturday.
All lots were full.
The sprint pits were full, so that's encouraging.
The one's who don't support local racing, will (as stated) lament the lack of a track the loudest.
Sandia isn't "all we have" it's "what we have".
...I'd just as soon see it survive.
