Wow, just 2 races into the 2013 season and just 5 A-Mods show up? With 20+ X-mods I think the writing is on the wall!

Howdy Everyone!

Why negative comments Joe after an awesome night of racin???

Looked like a pretty decent fan turnout and great racin in ALL classes to me!!!
We had a blast and enjoyed watching those 5 A-Mods flying around the high banks!!!

I've spoke with several A-Mod folks that are working to get back on the track. Plus, with some strategically planned events we could see a lot of fast cars from down south and out of state!

James, yes it was a Great night of racing! I was simply pointing out the obvious, the A mod's were getting 16-20 cars two years ago, where did they all go? Meanwhile the Xmods are growing like Weeds!

Your welcome to hang out with us and get the car ready in the pits, when we get it done. It's a lot of fun !!!

I focus on the Good and Positive and the direction the track is heading because it's only getting better each event!
Many top notch folks running NAPA Speedway and "The Show" and the facility improvements will follow.

I wish we had 20+ A-Mods running right now too!

We can get back there. It'll happen

Kelly I agree they put on a show, but it seems the Big money shows is all that an A-Mod has in its future! How many racers can afford a 406 Roller motor and run for $300 to Win, if that?

If indeed they are dead I will be a travesty.

I enjoyed the A- Modified class even if there were only five or six of them and I truthfully forgot just how fast they are.

I love how they make their own traction with all of that rear steering and hike. I hope they continue to grow. Remember that not that long ago there was over thirty of them local.

Hats off to Napa Speedway for hosting eight classes and still getting the show off before 11:00 PM

I agree it would be terrible for the A-Modified class to die, but the question remains why? What happen to kill this class? Was it HH shutting its doors, the IMCA, UMP, the USRA, X-Mods, the Economy, Napa Speedway, Uranium Capitol Speedway, blown engines, or was it just a weird concoction of all of it? More cars are parked then racing, why? I often wonder if the cost out weighed the return too often, if too often people were tired of being torn up and taken out by people that didn’t belong in the class in the first place. Maybe the track surface at Napa is to blame; Baja long travel was needed for the first few years (and at times still) just to make it around the track. So it would seem that between replacing shocks, wheels, body panels, tires, engines, and the overall attitude that we as a track don’t need you hear has taken its toll. I will agree that perhaps the cheaper X-Mod class with its much more competitive racing has helped reduce car counts as well, but I think the real issue still lies elsewhere…

I think its been a combo of all of the above Gary. Price of alcohol to run em (if running alcohol) the "claimer" engine days are long gone.
Equipment getting tore up is never a good thing via driver or rough tracks. price of diesel and gas are not helping any race track at this point. Payouts at local shows have gone down EVERYWHERE. Price of racing in general is crazy right now. Drivers who would possibly consider a Modified found they can have lots more fun in a Xmod less money less stress! I run IMCA modified up here in aztec but run a limited schedule that keeps us racing and not to broke. As far as IMCA or USRA or UMP Modified racing in general is way way expensive anyone who thinks imca is "cheap" is way off. In fact take regular parts wheels spindles whatever and add 10-20 dollars lol for that nice imca sticker! I also dont need to remind anyone what a nice imca engine will run these days.

I understand what your saying Sir.

If someone goes racing in ANY class on any track, they are gonna tear up some equipment. It just happens...

ALL Racers have the same traveling expenses if they decide to visit other facilities.

Most of the A-Mods are running race gas now.
Cheaper and better chance of not running out of gas on the 30 to 50 lap shows.

I think a critical factor for ALL of our New Mexico racers is to keep us ALL on the same page regarding where we can ALL race based on rules and scheduling events so many of us can make plans for it to happen.

It can be done

The X mods or Sport Mods is what the IMCA modifieds were like when the class was founded in 1990! It wasn't until the late 90's that you started seeing high dollar motors come into the class! And if your track is only paying $300-350 to win, the cars will disappear fast!

Did you & your friends enjoy the show the other night...or not?
Would it kill you to post something/anything positive on occasion?
Cuz from what I witnessed,the racing was outstanding and that was about as well run a program as there was at any dirt track in the southwest...
Now about the A mods...
Car counts are down,I get that...
And there are a myriad of reasons as to why.
Couple guys moved away,
Couple others got divorced& had to liquidate,
There are couple who haven't been able to make it out due to business commitments.
3/4 waiting on motors.
Some people got tired of the abysmal track conditions & carnage the past couple of seasons and sold out,Nobody knew at the time Fegan was gonna take over&rectify the situation.
1 local guy races only Cruces.
All told there's probably about 8 or 9 A mods locally that haven't made it out(Yet).
You gotta remember as well...
Back when we were pulling 30 a show at HHS there was no such thing here as an X mod.
A lot of guys have chosen to that direction...
Can't blame em,that class has to be the most bang for the buck class going.
I pretty much pegged the fun guage driving mine the other night... Those things are a blast and 99% of the guys in that class race you hard&clean.
I think the A mod class will eventually grow,and you'll get adequate fields,maybe not to where it was 5 years ago,but times have changed.

Mychal, I find it odd your taking my comments to task when you compete in X mod, I'm betting it's because it's Far cheaper to compete in right? BTW, my guests enjoyed themselves at the track, although they were surprised at how Chili it got! As for the A mods, did they ever have more than 12 for any show last season? How many cars did the X mods average? I simply point out the obvious, if it's Poliically incorrect I apologize!

That car has some giddy up...

The latest chassis' are pretty slick too.......hmmm?

We sure did have some good times at HHS with the A-Mod class and I can see now that those same opportunities are rising again at Napa Speedway!!!

I think racing in this area will only get better and its all contagious. Both Positive and Negative, so let's focus on the Positive!

Other drivers will show up once they know we have a consistent place to race!!! That is the key

IMO This is directed at NAPA speedway only. The A-Mods are not dying they just need to be built back up. The x-mod class is doing well right now and there are a lot of good reasons why but there are some basic things that have adversely affected the A-mods. The X-mods were designed to give older mods a class to run competitively in and prepare drivers to become A-mod drivers. My thoughts are that by opening up the rule package as far as we have done (outlaw bodies, big spoilers, ported/polished heads, expensive shocks, and lack of enforcing the rules) the class has grown expediently. There are not a lot of reasons to move up right now. My feeling is if you are going fast enough to need or want that stuff then you should want to move up and run the A-mod division. I feel as long as you can put on all that stuff on your X-mod then why move up when you can always go faster in your X-mod by buying the same stuff that is on the A-mods and you wonâ€™t have to chase the 3j car. I think that when we limit the X-mod class back to where it was designed more of the top drivers in the division will aspire to move up.

Those are very good points sir!
Several X-mods in their main event looked like they would've been on the lead lap in the A-Mod main event with some hard racing.
Are we gonna see the #9 A-Mod slingin mud this summer!?!

What kind of rules they running for the Mods now in Grants?
Many changes on the car or are they straight up USRA???

I heard the folks in Grants LOVE Racing!!!

I'm trying to get my work schedule so it will allow us to visit that track too.
