We are NEVER alone in our struggles to fight addiction, whether it be alcohol, drugs , and/or FOOD though at times it may not feel that way!
Food is the drug of choice for millions of people, and most do not even realize the self= medication involved with the process of eating. I am acquainted with alcoholics sworn to never drink again, who now turn to sugar for their "fix". For them it becomes a new struggle. From my own experience I know that some foods can be very addictive, and they have been chemically modified with additives to make us want more, such as a component in a well known chip, that contains an additive that is used to fatten up livestock. Studies have shown that rats would prefer water laced with sugar over water laced with cocaine.
There are no easy answers. Lord knows I would be skinny right now if I could find the right path and stay on it.
I do know that there is a higher power that is here to give us strength so that we may rise above it and move on. This higher power, for those who are not religious , can be the inner strength that we dig deep within ourselves to find. But this higher power can be the strength that comes from deep spirituality for those who are religious.
There is comfort in knowing there is a part of each and everyone of us that can rise above the struggles of losing weight to achieve goal.
LOOK for inspiration! I do search for inspiration every day! If he or she did it that so can we !!!
What an inspirational post! I agree with you about looking for inspiration and about a higher power. I have much more insight into myself and my eating habits than I had in my younger years. If I had only known then what I know now...
Hi everyone. I hope you are doing well. I want to share this even though it may not be what you would consider an acceptable weight loss method for you.
I am back to report I am excited because I was able to get through my first day without giving up!!!!!! That is amazing. Now I can say I have hope where there was none!
I am hoping to make progress - I will try to report back with results and share some of the "Zone " recipes.
Yesterday I even did a half hour on my slim cycle. This time I am doing 2 Cambridge shakes per day plus 2 protein snacks, and a "ZONE" approved evening meal that I can have with my husband. If you are familiar with "Zone" it is a diet/ life style change that was developed first to improve athletes' performance, but was found to balance insulin levels and so therefore would encourage slow steady weight loss. Portions are measured in blocks. The palm of the hand is the size of the protein portion, low carb vegetables make half of the plate, a carb the size of your fist is allowed, a healthy fat the size of the tip of your thumb is allowed. Lean proteins are encouraged. Rarely, a dessert such as a beer, or ice cream, or a snickers bar can be eaten BUT only if accompanied by a portion of lean protein to balance out the insulin levels. Barry Sears has written a number of "Zone" books. I like the book 'Zone Perfect" and really enjoy the recipes..... If you are interested there is a website where you can measure your BMI and find out through their calculator how many Zone blocks you will need in a day. There is more information on portion size, etc. Like many diets the website offers products that you do not need to buy, and also meals. I would like to point out that this is really not a diet as much as it is a lifestyle change and can easily be followed for a lifetime. It is not so restrictive that you can't eat at an event, go out to eat at a restaurant, of enjoy a meal with the family. It is about making good balanced choices.
I know this is not as simple as fasting or taking 3 Cambridge shakes per day and nothing else but THIS IS MY PERSONAL CHOICE AND IT IS WHAT WILL WORK FOR ME!

I think I stated Zone Prefect to be the best book about the Zone Diet but "Mastering the Zone" and "Entering the Zone" are really good books and do include recipes.

Day 3- Yesterday I got the better of myself and did what I often do- self sabotage! I won't get into great detail but I let an individual have power over me and that generally leads me to comfort eating. I need to develop better coping skills. Someone once said "Failure to plan is planning to fail." A plan in place to deal with stress is what I need.
Oh well, what does really matter is I am still in the game and that is what counts. Rising above it and moving on- my plan for today- 2 Cambridge shakes- 1 "Zone" balanced meal and walk the dog/exercise on stationary bike. Eventually with endurance I want to try one of the videos on YouTube designed for spinning.
OK here we go. Everyone have a great day!

I understand about self sabotage. Sorry to say, I do it also. On a positive note, it sounds as if you have a very good plan with the 2 shakes and 1 zone balanced meal. Your exercise plan sounds great. Both of my knees are in pretty bad condition, so I do less intense walking than I would like.
