Phil, I will let you in on a little secret bro. As a writter, the day I stop putting what I honestly believe in, is the day my pen lays to rest. I don't write things to cuddle with the right people, I place an honest perspective on how "I feel". Shoot straight and aim high approach. Just because I write about fishing, doesn't mean I can't have an honest opinion. I am no different to everyone else. One thing I really don't like is being told what you should be writing about....... Thats for sheep. I support change and progress, but not because I'm told I have too.

The definition of elite Phil, "A group of people considered to be the best in their field". At not point did I say tired, self centred buggers who wont help anyone. I was pointing out that there is only about 12 casters nation wide in that elite group. Guys like Jock move mountains to help people at their own cost of time and money. Guys like Pete from up north are outstanding people who work very hard, train and help people. There is no denying that. However, I still go back to my point, its complicated. Or there would not be numerous discussions surrounding it.

Anyone who can cast 200m plus is in the top 1% of anglers in NZ, there are thousands of surfccasted out there fishing. Very few can achieve that mark. They are an elite group within the NZ circle. The guys casting around that, are in a league of their own. For the rest who just like to "have a go" it has been made a little more difficult.

I fish this area everyday almost Phil. I can tell you from personal experience that distance is important. As it can be all around the country side. But this is straying well off topic from casting specs.

Just out of interest Phil, that $400 off the shelf rod you mention you cast 200m with and is suitable for distance casting..........
