always used short rods off the rocks would not go over 10 foot but that is my preference, almost landed my PB snapper off the rocks up the taiharuru coast with a warehouse boat rod and reel which ran out of grunt due to lack of quality. looking at getting a shakespeare ugly stik for rock and wharf I know what those rods can do and for what they are they are quite a powerful rod also the shorter length allows for me to gaff or net when there is no one to assist.
