A recent arrival on the UK reel scene is playing to rave reviews. Both fixed spool and multipliers are at the top of the line, also the top of the price range but reviews are simply magnificent.

The fixed spool reel (not shown in this clip) has an extra long shallow spool so that a long cast does not deplete the line much below the rim of the spool, thereby creating very little drag.

These reels are marketed by an ex (original) Swedish ABU engineer and the reviews seem to indicate that once more the design, reputation, reliability and innovation of early ABU reels is available to anglers. I don't know if these have been brought into New Zealand but it could be well worth while performing some research before spending top dollars.

This YouTube clip will give you an idea of what this brand of reel is capable of, and like it or not UK (European) gear is generally well ahead of what is available on our local market.
