Zeebas/van Staal

Any one out there using any of these reels.
The reason I ask is that my trusty two Mitchell Nautless pro's havn't got to many years left in them now and am wanting a West Coast reel. Up here in the Far North the west coast is hard on the reels and if you gona buy something you might as well buy the best

.
I use diawa saltega surf and the windcaster for the east coast but would not dare to use them on the ninety

Have also read some good things from Allan Hawk about the Omoto Severo

A recent arrival on the UK reel scene is playing to rave reviews. Both fixed spool and multipliers are at the top of the line, also the top of the price range but reviews are simply magnificent.

The fixed spool reel (not shown in this clip) has an extra long shallow spool so that a long cast does not deplete the line much below the rim of the spool, thereby creating very little drag.

These reels are marketed by an ex (original) Swedish ABU engineer and the reviews seem to indicate that once more the design, reputation, reliability and innovation of early ABU reels is available to anglers. I don't know if these have been brought into New Zealand but it could be well worth while performing some research before spending top dollars.

This YouTube clip will give you an idea of what this brand of reel is capable of, and like it or not UK (European) gear is generally well ahead of what is available on our local market.

Thanks Hangler for that info, you can buy these reels in NZ. Is the Akios Scora 80 Fishing Reel water proof though and could it stand up to the riggers of the ninety

doesnt look like it likes being wet

Had the opportunity to use a van stall a while ago . Very strong and awesome drag on it BUT also quite stiff in its operation due to the amount of seals to make it water proof.

What about the penn spinfishers they seem well sealed and durable so far .

You could just buy cheap and just keep replacing them . The new Penn looks solid and is supposed to be water resistant . If it says it's water proof or resistant and it doesn't live up to that statement , well . The Vanstaal looks good and could probably stop a truck but it's made of alloy which is not as durable as you may think. Just my thoughts . Oh and hi Frosty.

I'm a fan the Trio Rex super stable body and the shallow long cast spool excellent handle and a water proof drag.
The Salt 80 and the new Penn appear to be the same reel .

Frostie, I have been using Pflueger Salt 80s for two years with no problems. They have an excellent drag, decent casting spool which loads perfectly, hamdle braid ok, seem trouble proof. I have had some big fish on these reels and they havn't let me down. Yes I do sell them for a living along with many others but they have been a stand out on the beach.
I am not sure which Penn Phill is refering to but probably the NEW Penn Conflict which is similar. We sell those too.

I buy cheap and use my daiwa crosscast 6000 everywhere boat beach rocks it's a very durable and easy to clean reel after a trip shake around in warm soapy water and leave in the shower with cold water for 5 mins used this all season fishing every 3-4 days I'm very impressed and also thinking of upgrading my okuma to a daiwa wind cast
