I can't ofer any advice on how to make a roof rack for your car but I can tell you these frequently pop up on TradeMe and they don't sell for the earth. You could also contact any local secondhand car dealers. They usually remove roof racks as they are not a bonus when it comes to resale. You may be lucky and find just what you are looking for.
