I love strong offshores, particularly for gurnard. Porangahau is one place where the offshore brings the fish in and we wait for it, particularly in the spring time. Tight lines with rods bent over works well. Circle hooks will mean more hookups before you get to the rod. 
The snapper don't know where the car park is!
Sometimes it is better to travel than to arrive.
