I have found the few times I have tried distance casting its very easy to birdnest the reel when you're not used to casting sinker-only.
With the combined weight of sinker and a clipped down bait I'm (mostly) confident of not nesting it. But with sinker only the whole experience is different. The spool accelerates so much faster, leading to control issues (for me at least)
