Hi AllJust want to say I for one appreciate all this guy has done for me and I guess many other surfcasters.
On the Okuma long post a while back, Gary held back, while various opinions were exercised, debated and sorted. Then when the post was at its end, he chipped in with his nice ending.
I bought Okuma as firstly it has a good reputation, second the guarantee's are excellent.
And most off all. CD rods, the wholesaler are a NZ, well established firm. Plus they make their own rods.
I ain't rich and the Axeon 90 and Solaris don't leave you much change out of $500 bucks.
But I do believe you get what you pay for. Go lower end and yes it works. But its like buying a Lada or a Daimler. Time will tell.
Way back I used Mitchels, they were the best on the market, then, French Made. No bail arm. Less wear points. Now gone byes byes nighty night.
Now back to rigs. I also got Garys Long distance rig, crab rig, and gurnard rig. At that time I actually wondered, "Who the hell is Gary" . All I was going to do was buy his rigs then copy them.
Well after I got them, and tried them. I decided buggar now I need to buy is a pair of crimping pliers, and bags of crimps and beads, genie clips and this and that. And by the time I buy all that I can make 30 of these things. Na buggar, I went and bought another set of everything. So much easier. What am I going to do with 20 long casting rigs. And crab traces and gurnard traces if I make my own.
And I love them. And they work, thats even better.
Oh I will experiment, and still make up my own old style stuff. Although I think trace /rig design has reached its zenith, there is only so much you can do with a hook, a bait, a lead. a bait clip.
Imagine the fish if they could speak. " Oh my god what is this, do they actually think we are so dumb we will have a bite at that. Shit now they are chucking the whole necklace at us, how in the hell can we find the hook, in fact, I'm so pissed of I am going to roll over and poop on it then piss off as I have a date with Chad tonite and then it of down to the West Coast with my new lover.
Good stuff Gary we are lucky you stay in NZ.
Cheers Trev
