Chad, my origins are in the UK and I was fortunate enough to be a part of two angling shows made by the late Jack Hargreaves with his camera man, Stan Brehart, I won my place in the final in the Southern Television Trophy beating 24000 other anglers.

For the final, along with nine other finalists, we were flown to Shetland where the programme was made for viewing. At no time was it found necessary to have sponsor's products incorporated into the shows, these were kept to the advert breaks where they belong, as they should be here in NZ.

I follow your drift about magazines, I had the pleasure of being a freelance writer for a publication. Here again adverts are kept separate from the articles unless the writer is reviewing a product. I am well aware advertising is required to keep a magazine and television programme afloat, but television allocates several minutes every hour of the day for adverts, and magazines box off the advert from the article.

If you can spare twelve minutes watch this forty-year-old television clip from the UK, it will show you how angling should be portrayed as a delightful pastime, including a little history and the opportunity to learn how. Unfortunately there are no clips available on sea angling from those year. This clip is about catching Grayling, the lady of the stream. Should you see merit in this clip, try looking up Major Oliver Kite on YouTube, he passed away 43 years ago, the clip on clearing the stream of weed won a European film award,a Golden Rose of Montreaux' it was shown as 'The Keeper of the Stream'.

In their day These were programmes par excellence, and attracted many people to enjoy the sport of angling, and eye the countryside and beaches in a totally different manner.

Whilst you and others may enjoy Sinclair and his parenial question on the state of the fishery ... Laddie, plus Derek the chef who could burn water with little effort, he burned every bit of fish he ever cooked. You may wish to purchase one of his barbecues or his angler's frypan, not forgetting his never ending mention of Masterfood products. However, I would much rather watch and learn from experts their methods of catching fish, which after-all is what the programmes are supposed to be about.

Edited to say it would seem I am unable to submit a Youtube clip.
