Neil, I have tried to upload a URL to a proper, professional fishing clip made forty years ago, sadly it was automatically deleted when posting. However, all is not lost. YourTube has an excellent search engine, just type in the search box Jack Hargreaves and Major Oliver Kite and you will bring up a selection of their programmes. You do need to remember these were made many years ago, but it shows how programmes can and should be made, with the angler's interest as centrepiece, not a sponsor.

I know that as a general rule Kiwis hate the thought that someone can actually do things better, but on YouTube there are a huge number of clips made by Aussie surfcasters, many showing how poppers and plastics can be used from the beach. It is also pleasing to note that as a rule they really fish light gear.

Marko, I couldn't agree with you more, Al Brown is by far the best fishing presenter on television. He never talks down to the public by showing he is clever, he just takes a simplistic view to catching a feed, not catching specimen fish or huge bags our usual sport's presenters have become so adept at.

All I am waiting for now is an All Black test where Thomas is taken on to the paddock so he can show his prowess at running with the ball, he would love the scrum, an even better reason to put his arms round people's shoulders for a cuddle.

These suggestions are not a swipe at the television companies they are a genuine critique of the standard of fishing programmes. New Zealand is a large country, there is more to angling than going out of Auckland slaughtering snapper and kingfish. Let us see programmes where specialists in their field, Gary K as an example, are shown giving top tips on surfcasting, setting up the business end and how to perform a satisfactory cast. Sorry, Thomas, Sinclair and co wouldn't have a clue so let's see a few people who do. Their surfcasting efforts are always on virtually inaccessible far north beaches, now I wonder why that is, could it be because they can't catch fish elsewhere?

Anglers have a loud voice, I think it's about time they started using it and the NZACA got on board to improve our standing in the television sporting world.

I appreciate there are those who won't agree ... so, what's new.
