Three suggestions to get the ball rolling.
1st. Thomas and Sinclair should be approached to have experts in their field on the show to demonstrate their successful methods. Preferably with the show's hosts allowing the guest to explain their methods, not constantly interrupting with their own opinions.
2nd. It's about time the NZACA made themself more accessable to the pubic and obtain some publicity from television shows. At present this organisation is only to the forefront with club members, they should have local representatives who are bringing the association's work and benefits to ordinary anglers. They could make a good start by having a representative at local, large surfcasting competitions. I put this suggestion the a NZACA AGM twenty-five years ago ... it fell on deaf ears.
3rd. Angling is not always about catching the largest or the most, many of us are happy to take home just a single fish or two. Let's see those shows give a true picture of what angling is all about and concentrate a little more on the sporting side. I love using light tackle, the lightest of spinning rods (although I don't spin) loaded with a tiny reel and one kilo braid. Try landing a one kilo kahawhai on that sort of gear and you begin to understand what true sports fishing is all about. Let's see the occasional emphasis put on normal fishing, such as a Pania field day or a large tournament. It may not have the impact of a day in a boat just out of Auckland, but it's the kind of angling that is representative of 90% of the entire country.
I hope these are the sort of suggestions you are seeking Phill, if not at least it's a start.
