Chris, it's not so much the time spent fishing it more about the time you fish, if that makes sense....... Last weekend a September through to the end of October, you know the big fish are going to be there in the right conditions between 7-9pm......... Go out in that period when there is a flat sea and blustery nor westers and light onshores and your chances will improve, leave the day time fish alone, and just focus on that. Northshore road, end of le quane and you would be unfortunate to miss out. Sure there are fish caught out side of those hours, but this is the time where the bulk are caught, so this gives you a concentrated time I'm quite lucky because Whakaki and Blacks is not far away, and as soon as the weather is right, 10 minutes and im into the action, a handfull of casts on each rod in that time period and its hard to miss out, unless ive got shit on my fingers. I will let ya's know though when they are about, last year was different. I spent allot of time down past the cut and it was hard going, I got 3 big fish at the car park and most of my sholies in that time period. Where as other years it was better down the coast a little. All of the crabs where at the car park so that must be the main reason. Then later on, late October, the bigger fish come from down the far end of the beach. So don't think you are at a disadvantage by not having a bike, as myself and Kane were both fishing the car park with our quads in tow lol. My biggest goal this year is to hit the Wairoa bar and grab the whiskers of a few of them big kingfish and guide the buggers ashore, I can't wait, seems like winter has dragged....... She is a dream location in clean water, even the skippies are close in there...... Massive !! cant wait  |
