I've got 2 of them, one of which is starting to crack and I have not a very strong caster (Never tried catching dirt on a paddock) also have had to replace several eyes on both of them...

Once I pay my new tyres off I'll be looking at replacing these, seems to be some design imperfections coming through now they've had a little use, shame they are a nice casting rod for fishing.

You should take it back to the shop you bought it from . They should send it back to Pure Fishing for assessment and if it is a fault in manufacture I would expect them to replace it . I must say there was a shipment that could have been better fitting in the joints , this problem has been addressed with the new shipment. Good luck and if you have problem give me a call.

The Veritas 14'6" is fitted with reasonably lightly constructed guides so they don't take kindly to being dropped and I store mine with care in the Nissan. I have seen guides damaged by large leader knots . If its a manufacturing fault send it back.

I believe some of the blame can be placed on the fact the Veritas rod is not supplied with a rod case, even a cloth bag will help cushion those little knocks. This is poor for a rod that can hardly be described as being the cheaper end of the market.

The shop I purchased my rods from immediately recognised my concern and gave me two cloth bags, they [the bags] are not brilliant but they are a lot better than nothing.

I have been banging on to the suppliers about no rod bags , I have to say it pisses me of just a lot .
TT is addressing the problem and we are currently developing a high quality cost effective bag.

Kevyonz, I had a look at the rod you recommended today, what a beautiful piece of well thought out equipment.

Because of age (70) and a love of light surfcasting I would go for the 'Bait and 4' this felt very comfortable in the hands and the lightning quick action was immediately noticeable.

I would congratulate the makers for having the good sense to design a butt section where the reel seating is easily adjustable for those who wish to have the reel either high or low on the butt, I hope others may follow suit.

Having looked at the video clip I was disappointed to discover the quiver tip version of the rod is not available as yet. Who knows, hopefully one day it may be realised there are anglers in NZ who love to fish light?

The rod is not cheap, but it is said nobody ever regretted buying quality. I would love to try one out to see if the action is matched with comfort. All in all a serious piece of equipment that may well find itself in my arsenal one day soon.

Any faults, well one that became immediately noticeable, at 14 foot, the rod is two piece. If driving a small car (I do) then it is questionable whether the rod would fit inside without getting damaged, the light Fuji eyes for example. The alternative is to carry it on the roof but then the rod would need to be in two sections as the overhang could be damaged when opening the hatch.

To me nine out of ten ... I may soon go shopping.

They come with there own bag and FCO have got hard tubes for two piece rods for around $50.00. tie the on to your roof racks.

Thank you Naki, I used to write reviews for the Bay Fisher magazine.

One thing I forgot to mention, the rod's butt is slimline, therefore I believe it reasonable to assume it is modelled on the early, UK 'reverse taper' design rods made famous by Leslie Moncreif. Once the angler becomes accustomed to a slimmer butt, the amount of whip, or load, that can be brought into play is very substantial.

I did not handle the 'Bait and 6' so I cannot comment if this ability is also built in to the heavier model.

Hey Tookey how did you get on with your veritas
Are they gonna replace it or fix it. Cant believe it snapped like that specially as it was only six months old and you look after it like its a baby and i just bungi chord all my rods together and throw them in the back, any how let me know how you get on as it was a nice rod and i've seen you pull in some nice fish so i was maybe thinking of getting one, although seeing it snap like that im not so sure i suppose it will depend on the manufacturers response

I have done a little research on the bait and four rods advertised in that film clip. I feel I must point out the models being marketed here in NZ are not those being shown on YouTube. NZ has probably got the last of the previous two models.

In the film clip they are talking about a new 'Red Line' or words similar, they are lighter than those imported to NZ. As such I will wait to see if we eventually get the very light rods advertised, I am not comfortable with early models as there could possibly be an issue over breakages and replacements, especially so as they are not made in this part of the world.

Hangler you are wrong the rods brought into NZ by ActionTackle Supplies the Australasian Distributor are the following models which were released mid 2012

Big Beach MK2, 4+bait MK2, 6+Bait MK2, 2+Bait Match,Rock,International, and a few others that are not in the market as yet

Scuzzy, I may be wrong in asserting the rods in our shops were the previous model, I have no desire to give a false impression. However, I must stick by my comment the rods shown in the video clip are not the rods being stocked in my local tackle shop.

The rods in the video are referred to as the red line range and there are clear pictures of the graphics on the butt section. The rods I was shown had blue writing an the reel seating was totally different.

After reading your post it occurs to me that perhaps the rod has received yet another upgrade, I will do some more research and report back.

Scuzzy, the video was uploaded on November 8th 2011, and is described as the latest range put out by the manufacturer. I may be wrong but I think it's unlikely they would bring out another range just a few months later.

Off the top of my head I am wondering if they have marketed a special model for overseas' sales, as surfcasting in the UK is predominately for very small fish, it's called scratching. This is purely a guess, as I can only reiterate the models I have been shown are vastly different to those in the video. Still very nice rods, although I am disappointed the lightest of the three rods, the last shown in the clip, is not available here ... as yet.

Afaw do a large range of rods.

The tournament match/rock an big beach rods belong to the redline range of their rods . They are the top line from afaw. The blue line is the second tier range and contains the 4 and bait /6 and bait etc

Both ranges are bloody good with the red lines being higher grade carbons and having better guides etc.
The redline rods are all in the + $700 area and tend to be a special order item .

Before you post, you should get all the facts, you of all people should know how the retail world goes. A state of the art rod, comes at a state of the art price, a price very few are willing to pay, and I've heard you blow your own trumpet of knowledge enough to know the insides of retail...........

The rods brought in are at a selling point where most kiwis can afford ( at the higher end of that bracket at that ). These rods are exceptional and work well. Yes there are better rods out there within the range, but there come at a heavy price. If you are so disipointed and genuwinely concerned bro, I would suggest contacting the NZ imported and ordering one which can be done........

You know the deal Hangler, stop doing what you do best, and go fishing elsewhere bro........

Chad, once more you have a crack at people who dare to question others and think outside the square. Reading about the recommended new line of rods, I put the video clip on this thread. I was so impressed by what I could see, I made further enquiries, this to the stage where a local shop (Hastings) offered to sell my new Veritas rods for me.

On closer inspection I discovered the rods on offer were not those in the video clip, I immediately posted and notified the error so others wouldn't think as I did. That is acting responsibly, I have absolutely no idea what your problems are.

If the red line rods are more expensive, so what? I can buy a rod for $50.00 or a rod for $500.00. If the red line rods are $700.00, and they are what I want, what I pay and how I pay for them is my business - not yours. Many items of fishing gear, especially boat reels cost well over a $1000.00, anglers still buy them. A top of the line Sage Fly rod is around $1200.00, to me that makes $700.00 price tag quite acceptable.

I run a small Suzuki Swift, others run huge, very expensive 4X4's, the $200.00 difference on a rod is tiny by comparison.

Kindly cut out the word bro, I find it extremely offensive and patronising. I don't call you Bro or Cous, I address you with the name you chose: Chad. Try reciprocating. I am still trying to work out what a 'bewidling' style of writing is: when reading my posts does it bring on acute urination?

If there is anything wrong in any of the posts I have put on this thread I am up for critique. Others who contact me privately appreciate the informative posts and methods I have written about, especially the light gear aspect and my willingness to share information. They have found my writing clear and understandable, and unlike some, where possible I am always happy to answer questions directly.
