Windy day

Had a windy day at Porangahau today. Fish were elusive and only had one feeding spree for about an hour 1.30pm to 2.30pm. Caught three species to weigh in tomorrow so that was a bit of a thrill. Early reports from other Pania fishos tell of hard fishing too.
Looking forward to our first weigh in of the season.

The snapper don't know where the car park is!

No wind (well not a lot) at Whirinaki, flat calm, clean but fishless.
I had one hookup which I only noticed because the line went slack. Heavy fish but no real fight came in most of the way and then gone.
Left me with a chewed off 60lb Black Magic Flurocarbon trace

I thought it might have been a big eel but the trace shows no signs of abrasion, it just looks like its been bashed through with a pair of hammers

Undoubtably a world class snapper just like the on Jimmy weighed in today.

Hey Gary, Spot-X was haumoana river mouth sat nite about 8-8:30pm an armed with the knowledge of Rex 10.58kg snapper, i setup the same rig an bait combo to get my very first snapper

Had to laugh when on saturday morning at the shop i was asked if we had any anchovies for bait not once but about 10x, after board readers here gleamed Rexs Snapper concoction. Alas we have been out of stock like most for some time

. But i haven't seen a big Snapper turn down most baits in front of them. The toughest part is finding the big snapper, and casting a bait in its vicinity as most know. Outstanding fish Jimmy!! absolutely wrapt for ya . Good to see a decent turnout at the first club weekend for the season. Good to see a variety of fish taken too. I heard that a Elephant fish was taken surfcasting out clifton yesterday, which is pretty cool for the local HB fishing scene. There have been a couple of large snapper hooked and lost this week too, so looks like we are into a nice early flurry. Will try my luck tomorrow afternoon before the next Southerly change.

Wasnt windy at Mohaka, muddy though which eventually started heading south..

And a brave Club member trying for a Mudfish?? (Name withheld)

Have I missed something? How big was the snapper caught by Jimmy and is there a picture?

Doesnt look very pretty at all at Mohaka. Sea was mint round here but I struggled to find any fish during the day. I hope I can get out during the week for a throw. Just hope the weather is ok. Maybe these easterlies will throw some thing int the mix.

Nice looking fish ... what a huge head!!! At 29lbs 12oz it sounds even bigger.
