best braid to use for surfcasting

was thinking about buying a couple of 500 meter spools of mono to respool my reels as 300 meter spool lengths are not filling the spool right up. But on the other side of the coin I am also tempted to just put a top shot of 8 or 10 kg braid on the reels just to get them filled up I used to surfcast with spider wire many years ago and used to like the fact I could fish a strong current and not have line pulled down the beach and was awesome for west coast fishing to get past the white wash. What is the best braid to use for surfcasting these days since there are different types available compared to 15 - 16 years ago.

We sell a lot of Fireline Extreme for surfcasters using braid on Spinning reels (eggbeaters). If you are using an overhead then Whiplash is the go.

Braids good on the right rod in the right conditions . I have found braid hates weed and stiff rods.
I use Fireline and Whiplash on my soft bait sets and some super expensive Daiwa Saltiga 20lb on a Okuma Predator 14'.
I use a tapered leader just so I don't cut my finger off.

Both of my surfcasters are fin-nor one is 13 foot 8-15kg the 14 foot 6 is a medium action 8-12kg I have only just bought the 13 footer and have found it is a little stiffer than the biger one. I do use shock leaders anyway and learnt my lesson the hard way when I used to use spiderwire on the penn power stick I used to have without a mono leader got told it would not cut me with the 50lb stuff I was recommended to use how wrong he was.

yeah Gary it did hurt I still remember it to this day first day using the stuff and I get cut by it the salesmans ears would have been on fire with the vile and filthy language I was hurling at the top of my lungs when it happened I was just lucky I had a first aid kit in the tackle bag that day (which reminds me I must put one of those in my tackle bag). The funny thing was though on my way home I picked up a copy of NZFN and to rub salt in the wounds there was an article on surfcasting with braid in that copy and it clearly said use mono leaders or put tape around your finger

Quick question for ya Gary is it the exceed braid you were talking about as all of the hamilton dealers I spoke to only seem to have not heard of fireline extreme but all had the exceed in stock.

All good Gary no one is perfect mate, good reason why I avoided posting after being awake for 26 hours straight and never saw my bed till 10am saturday morning on the weekend, all in the name of trying to get a couple of snapper to only come home with a few mussels instead (well hey I still came home with a small feed lol)
