Bait on the beach

How do you keep your bait frozen or close too frozen on the beach? Have bought a bag(12) of small salmon to try but do not want the unused ones to thaw out and turn to mush. Heard that wrapping them in newspaper in a chilly bag with some ice or slicker pads slows the defrosting process down a bit.I usually use salted mullet no freezing required and it lasts for several weeks.

Interesting.....I usually defrost my bait night/day before a fishing trip in the fridge for a good few hours and just keep it cool at most. Any soft mushy bait just gets some cotton and maybe a bit of squid or something tough to hold it on the hook. Soft squishy salmon would give off its own mini berley trail so I would be happy to use it.

Otherwise a chilly bin and some ice might do it.

The newspaper makes a big difference in helping keep it frozen

I once fished next to a guy at maraenui who, basically (filleted slabbed out the sides)of his skippy and sat it in a container with a grill type thing in the bottom, kinda like a drip tray.. a lot of the juices ran out but the bait lasted quite well, he got a bag limit of snapper in approx 2hrs packed up and went home happy, I just use a good chilli bin and frozen bottles of sea water with a towel over them then bait in on top, tie up and have say 10 baited traces ready to change out, this way I only open the chilli when I have to tie up more bait, be interesting to hear what others do

ive lost enough brain cells, that now they are at a manageable level!

Size 30 Snaplock bags filled with water & frozen are good for 2 or 3 days.I don't bother my bait(skippy)is thawed before I go ,keeping it out of the wind helps though.Normally take 2 ,1 I'm using the other in a clean sack inside a normal sack.The white outer reflects heat well & keeps the bait cool enough.Putting the catch into the clean sack stops it drying out & keeps it in good condition too.

I use a 13l Waco chilly bin from CFO
Expensive at $100 but if your like me and like to take half a dozen different baits the it's well worth it
1st time I used it
Blew me away frozen bait lasts all day and more as long as you keep it latched and arn't opening it every 5 mins
I've had bait in it last 2 days and still cold and firm

I use a 50ltr Iceytek to store all my baits with frozen 2ltr bottles of salt water. Then make up 5-8 traces and put them into a 6 can chilly. Keeps my frozen bait solid.

No excuses, just get out there!!

I've been searching for a portable freezer but cant find one anywhere. There are small 3 way fridges and fridge freezers out there but a small stand alone freezer would be ideal. Somebody invent one please. Some good solutions put forward by you guys, 2 chilly bins, salt ice. Thank you.
