Becomes wishing" (quote Wicked Tuna!)for a bite.
Seven hours on a BOP beach with out a bite except from the crabs that stripped bites over the low tide, at least with the loss of light they disappeared.
Water was the dirtiest I've ever seen it but it started to clear with the incoming tide, moon went down near high tide but still nothing.
The wind was stronger to start with than predicted and the swell (what there was) looked confused due to the wind or was it the earthquake the day before?
In the last hour 8 to 9pm every bait came back untouched but nothing apart from the seal and a couple of diving seabirds the ocean was dead.

And a 90 minute drive home and a car to clean out today, oh well its happened before and it probably will again.

Yeah you have to do your allocation of dud days before the sea will grant you a good one

BOP can be like that, I've driven there twice from Napier and caught nothing both times. Apparently it can be totally on fire in one area and dead as everywhere else.
I think when I venture there again I would pack up and move along the beach if nothing was happening.

I tried that at Hawai! Same result.
Yes I think the moon up during the day has something to do with it, will though look elsewhere in a fortnight.
At least the sliding pulley rig worked really well....

Even after the moon went down and baits remained untouched it was dead.

Put simply the moon needs to be not in the sky by day but "underfoot" ie 1-2am

Don't fret, the "dumb" fish are not far away now.

There has been a few KY caught off Papamoa Beach in the last few days. Mate and I caught 6 last Thursday and he caught a nice 2Kg one on Saturday

Looking at the deep water beaches east of Opotiki next time with the tides in a fortnight a bit sooner than last weekend.

Just comeback from Te Aroara last 3 days with bin full of snapper up to 4.5 kgs most caught on crayfish , big one on fresh yelloweye. The earthquakes sure didn't put them off , most caught just on full tide.
