So I moved to Glasgow. So many problems with this flat and they clearly don't want to spend any money at all.
Intercom doesn't work. In was in the check in inventory. I told them about this last Monday. Still doesn't work. Called them today about it. They're looking into it.
No blinds or curtains. Called today. "Did you say anything before you signed the lease? We don't have to provide blinds and curtains." Unbelievable. I've never seen this. So I bought blinds for £35. Tried and failed to install. I'll have to call a handyman which will be another £50 at least.
No normal lock on the door. Just a weird one that's really stiff. Told them about this two weeks ago. Still nothing done. Called today. "Just put some lubricant on the lock. And one lock is sufficient." There's a big hole where the normal lock should be. I said that I was told that this would be fixed before I moved in. "Who told you that?" I give the name. They said they'd send somebody just to put a handle on.
Guy comes with a handle. Looks at the door. "That's a disgrace. I'll see if I have a lock in my van." Didn't have a lock. I told him that there are numerous problems with this flat and they clearly don't want to spend money on the place. He says, "Even if they don't pay I'll still put one on there because it's the right thing to do." So he puts the handle on and says he'll come back some day for the lock. Also told me to check the laws about having to provide window coverings in rented accommodation.
I looked it up and there is no law against it. It's crazy though. Every tenant has to put his blinds/curtains up? It requires drilling new holes every time. Why would a landlord or tenant want this situation? That's why it's standard practice to have window coverings.
Outside of my flat, Glasgow is a real shithole. But I'm going to see how this job goes. Maybe the job will be awesome. That's effectively why I stayed in London as long as I did. I liked the job. Then I started to not like it. But only that particular place where I was working.
Anyway, sporatic internet until the 30th when hopefully this engineer re-connects the line.
