What are even worse are "best of" compilations. I'm thinking about Youtube here. It's a lazy clip show.
Clip shows used to serve a purpose. I believe that they started in the world of cinema. They used to show serials, effectively multi-part films, so they'd show clips from previous films in the series to remind the viewer what happened. This would be useful even if you've seen all of the previous installments just to refresh your memory because it was probably months or years since you've seen it.
Even in the first 30 years or so of television, clip shows had their place. There was no syndication. An episode might have been repeated once in a season but that was it. So if you missed the original airing and the possible repeat, you were just out of luck. Even if you did see the episode, it was still nice to watch a clip of an episode from years gone by. It was probably the only time you would ever see it.
But once syndication came in and shows were being rebroadcast ad nauseum for years and decades after the show had long since been cancelled, clip shows became annoying.
Certainly by the advent of DVDs wherein the release the entire series, clip shows ceased to have any sensible purpose. Anyone who wants to watch the old episodes can do so, at will, from the comfort of their own home.
So now there's these Youtube clip shows. It's absurd. If I want to watch another "episode" or your crap "show" I'll just click on the appropriate video.
Now, I'm just a simple country boy, I don't know much about your "ratings" and such, but I've grown accustomed to making millions of dollars and getting my sausage smoked by all the young ladies. So please buy Praise soap to keep me in Brylcreem.
