I checked out my sister's Facebook for the first time. She's shilling her niece's high school squash team. It seems that the team needs $2000 for...something.

Very distasteful. For one thing, this girl has a rich father and goes to a very expensive school. Her father can pay that $2000 himself without any worry. But why should he? He's already paying a huge tuition. What do they need an extra $2000 for?

So anyway, let's just beg poor people to pay for some rich kid's squash team.

The whole thing is disgusting. The school can easily pay for this with all that tuition money they're getting. The girl's father can easily pay for this with all the money he has. Who absolutely should not be paying for this are total strangers to this girl on low incomes. "My niece needs money for her squash team". Who gives a shit?

Fortunately, it seems that nobody even considered donating money.

Is this a phenomenon that exists in the UK? I've never heard of it but my social circle is limited.

In the US, it's rampant. These schools are always (seemingly) broke. Always looking for a handout. Raffles, making your parents selli calendars to their co-workers, making children sell chocolate door to door, bake sales, forced labour for the parents, or my personal favourite: sexy teen car washes.

How these car washes are legal is beyond me. You'll see young girls in tight, wet t-shirts and hot pants on a street corner holding a sign advertising their services. Very often they'll be loud and obnoxious, trying to attract customers with wacky shenanigans.

Apparently, there are some schools that have bikini car washes. I've never witnessed that myself. But why stop there? Why not topless car washes? Why not blowjobs for money?

And it's all for what? To raise a few bucks for some school that either charges tuition or is completely funded by the government.

Okay, some schools may be under-funded. But this is not the solution. None of this shit is. Fuck your raffles. Start a campaign to pressure the government for money for the schools.

And it's not just the under-funded schools doing this. EVERY school does this shit in the US.

Of the many problems of the US education system, this is one of the worst. You should be able to send your kid to school without the school constantly asking for handouts. Enough of the fundraisers. Just do some fucking teaching. You don't have money for squash? Fuck squash.
