A couple of years ago, a tenant's union was formed in Scotland. It's headed by some guy who ran as the socialist candidate for Glasgow council or something. So great. As soon as I heard about this shit, I joined. There's nothing about this that doesn't appeal. I sent them five pounds a month.
That ended today. They sent me an email inviting me to go to anti-Trump rallies in Glasgow and Edinburgh.
It was with deep regret that I had to send them an email informing them that I've cancelled the direct debit and why.
I've gone over this many times on many different forums. There are problems in the UK. You want to protest, go to London and protest against Theresa May. Her policies actually affect you.
Donald Trump? Not at all. The man could be sticking people in ovens and it wouldn't affect British people.
And why single out Donald Trump of all the world leaders? Is he the worst? Of course not. He's not even top 50%. Africa is full of brutal dictators. The Middle East is a total write off. Russia. China. North Korea. Much of Central and South America. Most of the Caribbean. All lead by people worse than Trump. Why no protests?
The anti-Trump protests that one finds outside of the US are nothing more than thinly-veiled anti-Americanism masquerading as progressive politics.
I'm paying £5/month to a xenophobic, anti-American organisation? No chance of it.
And how absolutely retarded to do this. There are plenty of people in Scotland who like Donald Trump. I don't like him but he's no worse than Theresa May. But any member of this organisation who likes Donald Trump, and they're surely out there, must have cancelled their membership immediately. It's automatic.
Stick to things that your members care about. Tenant rights, for example. Don't bring divisive, not to mention totally pointless, politics into this. And what a slap in the face to any right thinking American who's a member of this organisation.
