So I just have to find another recipe. This was the easiest one I could find so I went with it but most recipes call for tabasco sauce and hot peppers and various spices.
It all worked, though. I was afraid that the rice wouldn't cook but no, it's fine, you put it in during the last 30 minutes, as the recipe calls for. It was cooked.
Then there's the price. I went to to Tesco and only bought the stuff I needed for this jambalaya (plus two bags of crisps). Not including the crisps, it was £8. So consider that I have plenty of excess rice and cajun spice, the total cost of this pot of food is about £6. There's probably three days' worth of food here.
So yeah, if I can just find a good recipe to make this a bit tastier this could be a revolutionary change for me. Easy to make, probably healthier than the shit I usually eat, tasty, lots of it, and cheap.
And the opportunities for experimentation are endless. You can put whatever you want in this shit. Different meats, more vegetables, spices, whatever.
