I was watching some Mystery Science Theater 3000. I saw a Gamera episode and the Mitchell episode. Mitchell is considered one of the best.

I don't know. This used to be my favourite show of all time. I watched these two episodes recently. They had some funny moments but it wasn't the endless hilarity that I remembered from my youth.

I found myself being more interested in the movies and the comments were, at times, distracting.

I also tried to watch the MST3k (as the kids call it) reboot that came out maybe a couple of years ago now. Holy crap. Unwatchable.

It's not the first time that I went off the series. For many years, the show was on Comedy Central. Then Comedy Central cancelled it and fledgling network The Sci Fi Channel picked it up.

A condition set by their new network overlords was that MST3k could only do science fiction films. These tended to be old black and white movies. I didn't mind the occasional science fiction and/or black and white film but not every fucking episode.

So what used to be a show that I'd watch every week became, "Eh...I'll skip this week". Then I'd skip it for a month. Then I just stopped watching.

Eventually, the Sci Fi Channel relaxed their all-science fiction mandate but by then, I stopped watching. The show was cancelled after a couple of years.

Even before the move to the Sci Fi Channel, the show was in some real decline. Mike replacing Joel, I was able to live with that. They were both good.

But then when Dr Forrester and TV's Frank were replaced by the awful Pearl, that was it for me. The show became painful to watch. Fortunately, she played a small role in the show so I was able to persevere but the skits involving her were just obnoxious and unfunny.

So I think it just ran its course. I also don't watch any of the crew's subsequent stuff like Rifftrax, Cinematic Titanic, or the live shows. It's just not what I want to do with my time any more.
