What is the definition of Theft Relevant Parts?
A Theft Relevant Part can be used to change the identity of a vehicle or to steal a vehicle. Keys are an obvious example but there are various control units that help to create the security systems within our cars. To guarantee TRP security and integrity for all parts we have a specific, secure user ID mechanism where only certain individuals can programme the parts. Likewise, Mercedes-Benz control the whereabouts and traceability of the equipment and parts to mitigate any breaches of security and abuse of the process.
How long has the restriction on the supply of certain parts been operating?
The restrictions have been around for approximately ten years so it’s a well established, proven process. The introduction of Euro 5 and Euro 6 emissions cars necessitated a few small changes but predominantly the process and restriction of certain TRPs to independent workshops remains unchanged for the past decade.
What’s the main aim of the TRP process?
Simply to protect our customers’ cars from theft. Mercedes-Benz are committed to making it as difficult as possible for unauthorised people to change the identity of their cars, while employing pragmatic processes Retailers, customers and StarPartner members.
TRP restrictions
There are a few TRPs that Mercedes-Benz cannot supply to independent workshops, these are predominantly for cars that are pre-Euro 5 emissions levels. For more information speak to your local Retailer or contact the StarPartner Team (auto link email).
But with TRP’s aren’t you taking business away from independent repairers to boost work for your Dealer network workshops?
We encourage StarPartner members to work with our Retailers to ensure maximum security for Mercedes-Benz owners.
How many Theft Relevant Parts are there?
There are more than 1,500 TRPs and with new model development and changing part numbers this continues to grow. Each Mercedes-Benz Retailer employs two TRP specialists to ensure the needs of our StarPartner members are catered for.
