The idea of removing block exemption it so that dealers no longer have a monopoly.
This gives, the general public, fleet operators, lease companies the opportunity to use Independent garages for servicing and repairs without affecting the manufacturers warranty
You do not have to be a manufacturers approved repairer to pick up this business
Many Fleet operators and Lease companies will stike deals with many soft franchise independents such as Unipart, Bosch, Drive In, etc who are signed up to the new code of conduct and offer a nationwide guarantee.....and a realistic labour rate!
Companies like Virgin, Walmart, Tesco, Sainsbury start to sell new vehicles of all makes from super warehouses or on the internet, they may also stike deals with certain independents to carryout the servicing and repairs....giving the consumer a complete package, with no nasty big dealership bills
I personaly dont see the point of becomming an approved independent repairer unless you have shed loads of one make to service and repair. In this trade you need to repair many makes to make a living.....many Independents have probably already invested £25,000 in various pieces of diagnostic equipment already
The winners will be the independents who are thinking ahead with diagnostic equipment, technical info, capable staff, training and most important, the right attitude to customer service and care
