Hi Neil, I have got the Joules kit for reprogramming Fiat Ecu's and immobiliser boxes, It is very straight forward and it is a D.O.S. programme written for anyone that doesn't understand or know about chip programming.
I have been going to buy a chip programmer for a while now, but I contacted Diagnostix.co.uk that sells them on E-Bay and they explained that there were no instructions with the kit and the person buying it needed to Know about Hex programmes etc, So they talked me out of buying it, When I was Trying to sort out the VW golf with Motometer instruments, I tried to read the e-prom with various programmes that people sent me off the internet, ( most were made to read the chip through the diagnostic socket, which is really what I was trying to achieve) But I could not get any of the programmes to work properly, So A freind Brought his E-prom programmer, We read the Hex files from the chip, (Which contains hundreds of numbers and digit's, and I sent it to a couple of people, they told me from looking at the file what the immobiliser code was, We then bought a new instrument panel, read the code in a couple of minutes,We realised straight away what the code was, fitted the instruments into the car, matched the ecu, programmed the key's, (using KTS) and then reset the mileage with vag-com. To be honest it was a right pain of a job, made harder due to VW not issuing the immobiliser code, But luckily the customer was prepared to wait (2 months)for us to sort it out as we were very busy with other jobs, But We learnt a lot, and It makes you want to do more programming, we then did the peugot Ecu last week using the Joules kit, (even though Joules haven't come across that part no Ecu before. P.S. The Eprom reader that we used was a seeprog and it is available in the UK for £55.00 + vat, it is a great little tool, But I Don't know what else is on the market that will do more or less, but the other tools seem to be a lot more expensive, unless you do what Paul did and try a kit off E-Bay.
