Accident damage/Insurance company's
Posted by MALCOLM TRIPP on August 7, 2007, 6:53 pm A phone call follows next day to say repair is uneconomic and they are going to write it off their is no chance of getting it back to take it to a local repairer who may well be able to repair at a vastly reduced cost using pattern parts etc etc. Latest instance rover 25 03 plate slight damage to rear, she backed into a post at 2 mph easily done! single woman panicked into agreeing by what I consider to be bullying tactics by her insurers. Are they up to something like trying to remove all cars over 4 years old from the road, or are they repairing them and exporting to third world countries. can any body-shop boys out there shed any light ?

Another thing, why is it the insurance company wont pay us the same storage fees as approved repairers even though we've stored the car for the same amount of time as any other garage would have until the claim was settled. I believe its all a fiddle and we don't know what really goes on. As already stated, its the customers choice who repairs there car but its made very difficult for them not to use the insurance company's recommended garage. I've actually seen some of the work carried out by these approved repairers, its not always as it should be, colour matching poor, poorly fitted panels etc but its all excepted for some reason but if we did work like this then it wouldn't and no doubt trading standard would get involved.

Alot of insurance company's have the own bodyshops now anyway so thats almost a guarantee to where the cars repaired anyway.

Re: storage charges for insurance company
Posted by John Wallis on August 10, 2007, 10:45 pm, in reply to "Re: storage charges for insurance company" Steve within a five mile radius it's £75.00 as a recovery fee I rarely go further than that. Inside storage has been £15.00 per night for a while so that might need updating. Outside storage generally £12.00. So your Alfa will be standing @ £420.00 + the recovery. Have you contacted the insurance company to let them know what they owe at the moment? It's worth a call. Hope this helps JW

A fine example of the lack of joined-up thinking in government and a result of educated-but-thick people making decisions on our behalf. Just my humble opinion! Steve
