The "many businesses" bit is concerning, who and for what ends?

5,000 members being inspected twice a year, who is going to run a 10,000 inpection per year system?

Who is going to look after the £2,125,000 first years takings?

I see the IMI are one of the bodies involved, now correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the IMI invented the ATA accreditation scheme in response to the governments concerns regarding this £4 billion pounds of misspent money and the shoddy working practices within the motor trade?
why don't we use a current scheme that seems to have most things right and license it (i.e you will be unable to trade without a ATA accreditation licence) and kick out the cowboys that way,instead of starting yet another SCHEME!!!
Or have over 5000 of us wasted our time obtaining a "ATA" accredition

Hi,

A couple of years back my neighbour cleared out his loft and gave me, amongst other stuff, a pile of car magazines from the 1960s. Interestingly, one article was about the demise of an MAA (remember them, it's what the RMIF used to be called) good garage scheme. It had folded due to lack of interest/awareness.
40 yrs on and we are no closer to any kind of uniform standard. The fact is, with so many organisations now trying to jump on the bandwagon (and dilute any concerted effort), we are probably further away now than we were then.
I expect if there had been a horseless-carriage monthly in the 1860s there would probanly have been a similar initiative to report.

It's all a crock of shit and a money making exercise. The IMI are one of the bodies involved, and have now also joined forces with Forte's Good Garage Scheme. What for? I was amazed after sitting the ATA, getting a letter from them asking me to put it in the local papers. It's a poor do if you ask me.

for what it is worth i might as well go to work tomorrow and knock up a couple of "Great Garage Scheme" signs on the number plate machine and screw them on the wall, they would probably have as much effect as joining any of the many product tied schemes that are about today, ie none. I get my customers by the quality and value of my work, nothing more nothing less, you know if you have it right by looking at your diary not how much space you have on the wall
