Parts VOR charges

I keep losing trade discount on the parts I order VOR.Instead of the manufacturers charging a delivery charge for VOR parts they just wipe out the trade discount.So if your customer went direct to the dealer they would pay the same price.
Do these manufacturers expect you to work for nothing? For the parts that I loose the discount on I charge delivery to make up the lost revenue so it makes my price dearer than the dealer.I know that not all manufacturers do this I would like to compile a list of the ones that do so when people ask what I thought of buying a Fiat I could recommend another make where they look after their customers.

You didn't mention the fact that some dealers are charging for delivery anyway! Nissan currently charge for any item under £100 and Ford is anything under £25. I should add that Ford (Vospers for us) have now launched a trade club similar to TPS and Vauxhall so maybe things will improve.

Some manufacturers never give discount anyhow, like Mitsubishi trucks, whilst others can't even deliver - like Chrysler.

I realise that this will vary from one place to another but we are halfway between Plymouth and Exeter, so not really out in the sticks!

If we have a 'smart' customer who wants to supply his/her own parts they are welcome to spend half a day collecting them and we also point out that any such repair will not carry a warranty.

We also find that providing a courtesy car gives more flexibility in terms of sourcing parts and finding the time to fit them.

my local renault garage is about 6 miles away
i get one delivery a day and get charged £2.50 whatever the cost of the part but if i use county garages Barnstaple (about 80 miles away) i get 2 delivery`s a day no charge for it and discount on vor items

I always expect reduced discount on VOR but it depends on manufacturer as to what I charge the customer. In my experience one of the worst is Rover where you only get about 2% even if the part is in stock. The only way you can give parts and labour warranty is to charge a little extra when there is no room in the RRP. I also do the same as Richard and point out the pitfalls of supplying their own cheaper parts (sub standard non OE, wrong parts delivered and warranty issues). Nearly always, they tell me to get the parts for them because they are either too lazy or lack the confidence to talk to parts suppliers. You also have to remember that it's swings and roundabouts here. My mark up on a wiper blade is about 200% and I bet most of you are doing the same with parts like that (bulbs, oil, filters etc).

This has always been the case, if you want something next day your discount suffers, if you can wait to a stock order you may make a few quid, it has always been like that, as to trade discounts in general and trade clubs, join them all !
